Pizzonia to race in Superleague

Former Formula One driver Antonio Pizzonia is the latest to sign up to race in the new Superleague Formula category, which had its maiden race at Donington two weeks ago

The ex-Jaguar and Williams driver will race for the Brazilian club Corinthians at the second round of the series in the Nurburgring.

Pizzonia, now a regular in the Brazilian Stock Car Championship, was unveiled as the team's driver at the football club's headquarters in Parque Sao Jorge, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

"I am extremely happy to drive for Corinthians in Superleague Formula and really looking forward to my first race at the Nurburgring," said Pizzonia, who also raced in Champ Cars for a spell.

"I think the format and the whole concept for the championship is excellent and I am very confident we can be very competitive.

"I have raced at the Nurburgring before and can't wait to try the Corinthians car there. I was really surprised at the reaction from the fans, it really has been amazing. I will certainly have a lot of supporters following my every lap."

Fellow Brazilian driver Tuka Rocha was also confirmed as the driver for Corinthians' arch-rival team Flamengo, who are based in Rio.
