Fauzy secures Fortec drive

Former GP2 and A1GP racer Fairuz Fauzy has filled the vacant seat in Fortec Motorsport's Formula Renault 3.5 team and will contest the rest of the season

The 25-year-old Malaysian raced in the series last year for P1 Motorsport and also won one round of the GP2 Asia series at Sentul, Indonesia earlier this year.

He will replace Julian Theobald, who was at the team on a race-by-race basis until a permanent driver could be found, from the races supporting the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.

"I'm glad to be back in the championship and it's good to be with a team that I know from my Formula 3 days," said Fauzy.

"I did some testing with them at the end of last year and I believe we stand a good chance of challenging the front runners. I'm looking forward to a wonderful start in Monaco."

Fortec boss Richard Dutton added: "It's a great boost for the team to have Fairuz with us. He showed last year that he has a great talent and a wealth of experience and we hope to capitalise on this.

"We were keen to see him in our car following his test last year, and I believe he can be incredibly competitive with us."
