Lorenzo 'in heaven' after taking pole

Jorge Lorenzo said he was 'in heaven' after maintaining his unbeatable qualifying form in Portugal

The Spanish rookie has now claimed pole position for all three of his MotoGP starts to date.

Despite beating the previous Estoril qualifying record by nearly half a second, Lorenzo felt he could have gone even faster.

"We didn't get the perfect lap, but anyway it was enough to win the pole position - the third for us," said the Fiat Yamaha rider.

"We are in heaven, it's like we are dreaming."

Lorenzo finished on the podium in both Qatar and Spain, but has yet to take his first MotoGP victory.

He insisted that his astonishing start to the season had not raised his expectations, and that he still regarded everything that he achieved in his early races as a bonus.

"For us, all the things that are going to happen now are a present for the future," Lorenzo said. "We don't have pressure, we only want to have fun."

But while adding that he was keen to keep his feet on the ground, the double 250cc champion said he intended to challenge for the win in the race.

"We have to be calm, we have to be quiet, and tomorrow we must fight for the victory," he told BBC television.
