Kobayashi claims maiden GP2 win

Kamui Kobayashi wins the GP2 Asia race in MalaysiaKamui Kobayashi took his maiden GP2 win this morning in Malaysia, after claiming the lead on the first corner of the GP2 Asia sprint race and never relinquishing the position throughout.

The Toyota F1 test driver was followed over the finish line by Romain Grosjean, who raced through the field from ninth on the grid to overtake yesterday's feature race winner Vitaly Petrov in a mid-race battle for second position. The Russian finished third.

"This is a fantastic result!" Kobayashi said after the race. "I made a perfect start and then I led the race until the chequered flag.

"I knew Romain was fast, so I never stopped pushing. I'm really glad to offer this victory to my team: they've done a wonderful job this weekend and we leave Malaysia with two podiums. We are back in top form!"

The result means Grosjean continues to lead the championship with 11 points, ahead of Petrov - who moved to second place after this weekend.
