Jarvis emotional after victory

Oliver Jarvis admitted that he struggled to keep his emotions in check after he crossed the finish line to win this year's Macau Grand Prix

The British driver dominated the event, taking pole position and two race wins, and his lead in the main race was never really challenged.

"The feeling on that cooling down lap was unbelievable," he said. "Very rarely am I an emotional guy in the car, but this was something special.

"I've won some big races and also the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, but this tops them all I think. It is the biggest race win of my career. It has been a fantastic weekend."

The TOM's driver added that he could have pushed harder in Sunday's race if he had needed to, but he was happy to maintain a lead of around two seconds over the chasing pack.

"I had a two second lead but I could have pushed harder," he said. "I realised there was no need because they were out of my slipstream and there was the likelihood of a safety car coming out.

"When it came out, I kept my cool. The restart was important and I managed to get a bit of a break and got the lead into the first corner which was crucial."

Jarvis added that the only time he felt slightly concerned was in the closing stages, when Kodai Tsukakoshi moved into second place.

"Kodai in my mirrors was a bit of a worry," he added. "I pushed a bit and did an 11.8, and then I saw he didn't catch me so I maintained a comfortable pace.

"I knew there were very few laps left, but he must have driven a very good race to get up to second from ninth on the grid."
