Jelley wins, Asmer takes title
Marko Asmer wrapped up the British Formula 3 championship in unsatisfying fashion at Croft when he retired from a convincing lead with engine problems. Victory went to Stephen Jelley (Double R Racing) instead.
Asmer (Hitech Racing) sprang into the early lead after a fine start, and was almost instantly assured of the title when his chaser Maro Engel ended in the gravel trap at the first corner following a collision with his Carlin Motorsport teammate Niall Breen as they disputed second place.
That left Asmer with a big lead over Jelley, Sam Bird (Carlin), Greg Mansell (Fortec Motorsport) and Atte Mustonen (Double R Racing).
But it wasn't long before Asmer's engine began to smoke and sound evil - he only made it to half distance before being forced to park it.
That put Jelley in charge, and he had no trouble holding off Bird and Mansell to the flag for the third straight Double R win.
Although Franky Cheng (Performance Racing) took a commanding National Class win, it wasn't enough to stop T-Sport driver Sergio Perez from taking the title.
