Smith confident of wins in 2007

Sportscar driver Guy Smith believes that Dyson Racing will be challenging for class victories in the American Le Mans Series next year

The team have switched from LMP1 to LMP2 for 2007, where they will be racing a pair of Porsche RS Spyders against the dominant Penske team with the same cars.

Smith said: "I'm confident that with the Dyson team and Chris Dyson, we can claim some wins and hopefully the LMP2 championship.

"The Porsche was a very good car this year and I'm sure the revised 2007 model will have increased performance and other improved details."

Smith believes that LMP2 will be a highly competitive class next year, with several new teams -including Andretti Green Racing - joining the series, while Audi look set to have little opposition to their dominant R10 in LMP1.

The 2003 Le Mans winner said: "I believe that LMP2 will be the best class next season. It's going to be a very tough year.

"There will be at least seven potential class winning cars, entered by very good teams and each featuring top class driver line-ups."

The ALMS season gets underway with the Sebring 12 hours in March.
