FIA warns F1 drivers over rejoining at Barcelona's Turn 2-3

Formula 1 race director Charlie Whiting has warned drivers that they must rejoin the track safely if they go off the road at Barcelona's Turn 2

In his updated notes to teams, Whiting has stressed that anyone going off there and over the speed bumps in the run-off area has to stay to the left of a bollard at the entry to Turn 3, which would ensure that they do not get in the way of oncoming traffic.

Whiting wrote: "Any driver who fails to negotiate Turn 2 by using the track, and who passes over one of the speed bumps across the run-off area, must then re-join the track by driving to the left of the bollard before the entry to Turn 3.

"Drivers are reminded that having left the track they must re-join safely."

The clarified ruling is similar to the situation at the Russian Grand Prix last time out, where drivers are given strict instructions on how to rejoin the track if they go off at Turns 2-3.

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen received a five-second penalty at Sochi for not rejoining the correct side of a bollard after going off track to avoid a crash at the start of the race.
