Jerez GP2 test: Racing Engineering's Jordan King leads second day

Manor Formula 1 development driver Jordan King was the fastest man during the second day of the final GP2 test at Jerez

The Racing Engineering driver set the pace in the morning session with a 1m24.429s on the hard compound tyres, ahead of Antonio Giovinazzi and Nobuharu Matsushita.

Tuesday's pacesetter and King's team-mate, Norman Nato was the first driver to dip below the 1m25s barrier on Wednesday, before Giovinazzi moved to the top.

King reclaimed top spot before a handful of drivers switched to the medium tyres, finishing the morning and day 0.116 seconds up on Giovinazzi.

Behind Matsushita, Pierre Gasly was fourth, ahead of Nato and Sergey Sirotkin.

Raffaele Marciello brought out the first red flag of the day after running wide at Turn 14 and clipping the barrier, before returning to the pits.

Shortly afterwards, Sirotkin caused the next stoppage when he hit the barrier at Turn 15.

Then, in the closing stages of the morning session, 10th fastest man Luca Ghiotto stopped out on track between Turns 7 and 8.

In the afternoon, Gustav Malja led the way on a 1m26.319s, 0.021s ahead of Alex Lynn.

Marciello was the cause of another red flag, when he came to a halt between Turns 6 and 7.

After the session went green again, most of the drivers settled into their long runs.

Prema's Giovinazzi improved on his time to go third, four tenths off Malja, having switched to the medium tyre.

Artem Markelov was also among those to improve in the latter stages to go fourth fastest, as Daniel De Jong rounded out the top five.
