GP2 testing: Norman Nato fastest for Racing Engineering at Jerez

Racing Engineering's Norman Nato was quickest on the opening day of the final GP2 pre-season test at Jerez

Nato set a quickest time of 1m25.811s ahead of Pierre Gasly and his team-mate Jordan King.

The drivers only had half an hour of proper running in the morning after foggy conditions brought out the red flag due to poor visibility.

Once the action picked up, Raffaele Marciello set the early pace before King managed to pull out a quicker lap as the track improved.

Nato and Gasly also improved in the final minutes of the session, both dipping under 1m26s to lead the times at lunch.

Alex Lynn was fourth quickest, while F3 graduate Antonio Giovinazzi rounded out the top five ahead of experienced drivers Mitch Evans and Sergey Sirotkin.

Gasly was quickest in the slower afternoon part of the session, setting a 1m26.375s ahead of Lynn and Nato.

Lynn led for most for most of the session from Nicholas Latifi before Jimmy Eriksson brought out the red flag an hour into the session after taking a trip through the gravel at Turn 1 and clipping the barrier.

Once the session resumed Giovinazzi improved his time to go fourth fastest, ahead of King and GP3 runner up Luca Ghiotto who was five tenths off the pace in sixth.
