BMW announces 2016 DTM driver and team line-up

BMW has confirmed it will retain the same eight drivers and four teams for its 2016 DTM programme

Although the firm is still to reveal which drivers will be placed at which team, it announced at its end of season event on Friday night that it was keeping faith with Bruno Spengler, Marco Wittmann, Maxime Martin, Antonio Felix da Costa, Augusto Farfus, Tom Blomqvist, Timo Glock and Martin Tomczyk, and the MTEK, RBM, RMG and Schnitzer teams.

BMW motorsport director Jens Marquardt said there had been no reason to tinker with the line-up.

"Now in our fifth DTM season since returning to the series, we are putting our faith in continuity within our squad of drivers and teams," he said.

"'Never change a winning team' is our motto for 2016, when we hope to achieve more wins and titles."

After taking Wittmann to the 2014 title, BMW was only a minor player in this year's DTM championship fight and struggled in the opening rounds, but it did win five races with Wittmann, da Costa, Glock, Blomqvist and Martin.

It is the second of the three DTM manufacturers to announce an unchanged line-up for 2016, with Audi revealing last week that an Abt/Rosberg team swap between Nico Muller and Adrian Tambay would be its only tweak.
