WSR to replace Andy Priaulx for Rockingham BTCC round
WSR will replace Andy Priaux for the British Touring Car Championship round at Rockingham
AUTOSPORT understands Priaulx's sponsor IHG will keep the car on the grid when the three-time world champion contests the European Le Mans Series round at Paul Ricard, and WSR is already considering potential drivers.
Priaulx, who won his first race since returning to the BTCC at Croft last weekend, told AUTOSPORT a decision would be made in the next couple of weeks.
"I'll put my suggestions forward but ultimately it will be down to Dick [Bennetts, WSR team boss] and IHG," he said.
"Rockingham is one of the team's best circuits and whoever replaces me has got a good chance.
"I wouldn't mind seeing a young guy get a chance. I'm set for next year if the programme continues and it would be nice to help someone in their career."
Priaulx's factory-affiliated ELMS campaign was always likely to take precedent, but he could have continued in the BTCC had been in title contention.
"If I was fighting for the championship I would consider it," he said. "But where we're at, I could never turn down a works drive.
"I'm having a great campaign in the ELMS even though we're not winning. We're getting much better and we were really strong at Imola."
