FR3.5 racer Gustav Malja joins European F3 field for Pau
Formula Renault 3.5 racer Gustav Malja will make a one-off appearance in the Formula 3 European championship in Pau this weekend
The Swedish driver has joined the Eurointernational squad in the French event, using it as preparation for the FR3.5 round on the streets of Monaco the following week.
Malja will race the car vacated on the eve of the season by GP3 racer Marvin Kirchhofer, and it will be a one-car operation due to Eurointernational's other driver Nicolas Beer being injured at Hockenheim.
"Racing at Pau this weekend is exactly the kind of preparation I need ahead of Monaco," said Malja, who will test with Eurointernational at Franciacorta on Tuesday.
"I have never driven at a street circuit before, and this will give me some vital experience of that.
"I know that it will be a massive challenge, but my only expectation for this weekend is to learn as much as I can about this unique kind of racing.
"I'm obviously here to explore the limits between the barriers and to give it my all, even though it's just a one-off in F3."
Malja only scored one point on his debut FR3.5 weekend at Aragon last month, having lost a front-row starting slot for race one when his car failed a ride height test after qualifying.
