IndyCar won't replace cancelled Brasilia season-opener
IndyCar has confirmed that it will not schedule a replacement event on the March 8 weekend that was originally earmarked for the now-cancelled Brasilia race
News that the Brasilia event - which would have opened the new season - had collapsed prompted speculation about a variety of possible alternatives, including Formula 1 venue Austin and a warm-up event at NOLA, which joins the IndyCar schedule this year with an April date.
However IndyCar said in a statement issued on Monday evening that the season will now start in St Petersburg later in March, although it has left the door open for a replacement event on another date.
"IndyCar has explored several possibilities in an attempt to find a replacement event following the cancellation of the March 8 race in Brasília," it read.
"Due to the lack of time for suitable planning and the limited number of options, the series has concluded it is not feasible to organise a replacement race on that weekend.
"IndyCar will determine other opportunities for its teams and drivers at that time following a review of the current testing schedule."
