Leading BTCC team WSR loses eBay backing for 2015 season

British Touring Car Championship-winning squad WSR has lost its eBay backing for next season

The BMW team, which took this year's drivers' crown with Colin Turkington, attracted eBay sponsorship for 2010.

Team principal Dick Bennetts, who ran Turkington, Rob Collard and Nick Foster in 2014, has now confirmed WSR is searching for a new lead sponsor for its 125i M Sports.

"We have just completed our most successful season in the BTCC, winning four out of four categories, so I believe we are in a strong position to offer new partners a unique marketing opportunity," said Bennetts.

"We have enjoyed a great partnership with eBay."

Steve Heywood, spokesman for eBay, said: "eBay has enjoyed a very successful partnership with WSR and are proud to conclude our sponsorship on a real high with Colin's fantastic BTCC championship win.

"We would also like to thank Dick and the whole WSR team for their huge effort this year and wish them more success in the future."

The move casts doubt over WSR's 2015 driver line-up.

Turkington was unable to defend his first BTCC crown, scored with WSR in 2009, due to budget issues.
