Triple Eight BMW joins Baku Blancpain Sprint Series GT field

The Triple Eight BMW team will field a car in the Blancpain Sprint Series' Baku finale next month as a potential lead-in to a full assault on the 2015 championship

The British team will run a solo Z4 GT3 on the Azerbaijan street race on November 2 for Joe Osborne, who drove for the team in British GTs, and Triple Eight academy driver Ryan Ratcliffe.

They will run in the Silver Cup class for silver-rated drivers who are 25 or under.

Team boss Ian Harrison told AUTOSPORT: "We want to go there and have a bit of a go as a taster to see what it is all about.

"Then we are going to figure out what we do next year: it will depend on the drivers we get and what they want to do."

Harrison explained that Triple Eight was exploring options in both the BSS and the sister Blancpain Endurance Series, in which the team took part in two races this season, and did not rule out an assault spanning the two championships.

"We are keen to do more Blancpain, but all the ingredients need to come together, which should happen in the next four to six weeks."

Harrison hopes that Ratcliffe, GT4 co-champion in British GTs in 2013, will contest a full season of GT3 racing next year in a Triple Eight Driver Development car.

"We want a full academy car racing somewhere, because we don't want the TEDD thing to be a one-hit wonder," he explained.

"We are aiming for a substantial race programme and are in the process of putting that together."

The Triple Eight BMW is one of a number of additional entries that will boost the BSS grid in Baku.

Beechdean AMR will field an Aston Martin V12 Vantage for Jonny Adam and Andy Soucek, while the German Callaway Chevrolet and Abt Audi teams will also be present.

Triple Eight will also contest the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi in December and the Dubai 24 Hours in January with undisclosed line-ups.
