Donington Park British F3: Matt Rao and Martin Cao share poles

Rao set the fastest lap from Cao by 0.2 seconds so will head the race three grid, but Cao had the quicker second-fastest time so earns pole for race one.

Formula Ford driver Max Marshall led the early running in his Double R car while the Fortec team-mates were waiting in the pits.

When Cao and Rao did set a quick lap they instantly went to the top of the timesheets and began trading fastest times at the head of the five-car field.

Peter Li and Camren Kaminsky also both had spells on provisional pole before being usurped in turn by Cao.

But Rao was not finished yet and on his final lap of the session went fastest, although he left it too late to make it a double.

Marshall will line up third in both races, with Kaminsky fourth and Li bringing up the rear.
