Spa GP3: Lynn beats title rival Stanaway after thrilling duel
Alex Lynn scored his third 2014 GP3 Series victory at Spa-Francorchamps but was made to work hard by title rival Richie Stanaway, who briefly led him for two corners
Poleman Lynn, who only inherited reversed-grid pole when Matheo Tuscher spun out of the lead on Saturday, made a great start and led Stanaway by 1.4 seconds on the opening lap.
But Lynn had a massive slide at Les Combes and almost spun at half distance, allowing Stanaway ahead of him.
Lynn fought back and repassed him just two corners later at Rivage, where Stanaway ran wide and dropped back from the leader again.
Lynn had no further dramas, and recorded a two-second victory over Stanaway to extend his lead to 34 points.
Alex Fontana finished a distant third, ahead of Jann Mardenborough and Nick Yelloly.
Emil Bernstorff pulled some gutsy moves on Dean Stoneman at Eau Rouge on the opening lap and Dino Zamparelli on the grass on the Kemmel Straight.
Zamparelli finished seventh, while Pal Varhaug just held off a charging Stoneman at the finish.
