Panther IndyCar team recalls Oriol Servia as Ryan Briscoe stand-in
Oriol Servia will return to the cockpit for Panther Racing at Mid-Ohio this weekend as Ryan Briscoe continues to recover from injuries sustained in a crash in Toronto
It will be the Spaniard's third outing with the team, following on from his seventh place in his most recent appearance at Iowa Speedway last month.
Servia will also take part in testing at the track on Wednesday.
"I'm very excited to be back in the National Guard car," Servia said. "Iowa was my last race, and while I love ovals, I'm really looking forward to getting back on a road course.
"Mid-Ohio is a very technical track and a [road course] specialist track, but I feel like everybody in our paddock is becoming a specialist because there are so many strong guys out there.
"We have a test day before the race that will be a big help for us fine-tuning the car, and especially for me to knock off a little rust. I'm looking forward to being competitive this weekend and there's no reason why we shouldn't be."
Briscoe, who is recovering from surgery to repair fractures to his right wrist, has previously said that he will be driving for Panther in all remaining IndyCar race weekends this year that do not clash with his American Le Mans Series commitments with Level 5 Motorsport.
On that basis, the Australian should be expected to return for the next round at Sonoma in late August.
