Rally GB picks Deeside as new base in moves to north Wales

Rally GB organisers have announced that Deeside will be the 2013 event's base as it moves away from Cardiff

This is the first time Rally GB has been based outside the Welsh capital since 1999.

The rally's central service park will be at Toyota's engine plant in Flintshire, north Wales.

As expected, the event will start from Conwy on Thursday November 14 and finish in Llandudno on Sunday November 17.

With the service park in place, the event organisers are now finalising the route for the final round of this year's World Rally Championship, with a formal announcement of where the rally will go expected in the middle of next month.

Rally GB chief executive Andrew Coe said: "We have listened to what the teams and fans want [from Rally GB] in our determined efforts to create what we are confident will be not only one of the best rounds in the WRC, but also a fitting finale to the entire 2013 world championship.

"South Wales has provided us with a fantastic home for Wales Rally GB since 2000, but the move to North Wales has a number of significant advantages.

"Most importantly, perhaps, we are closer to the sport's traditional heartlands, some iconic rally forests, as well as being within a short drive of some of the larger conurbations in the UK such as Liverpool, Manchester and the Midlands."

While ticket prices have yet to be released, AUTOSPORT has learned that a World Rally Pass will be sold at £90, a £40 reduction on last year's price. These tickets will be on sale from Friday May 3, but the price will rise to £99 from July 1.
