Alan Gow hails 2013 BTCC entry

British Touring Car boss Alan Gow has hailed the new NGTC rules after announcing a capacity grid at the 2013 media day

Although not all 32 entries will start the Brands Hatch opener later this month, the figure is believed to be a record for the modern era of the BTCC and means the series could run capacity grids during 2013.

Gow, who introduced the NGTC regulations in 2011, believes the entry vindicates the championship's cost-cutting efforts. Only six of the field will be the older S2000 machines.

"The record entry is real testament to the continued success, growth and stability of the BTCC," he said.

"The NGTC programme has worked absolutely perfectly. For the teams to have put in the investment in terms of time, money and energy is amazing. It's an incredible vindication of these regs.

"Our trackside attendance has increased year-on-year over the last decade. The ITV audience figures and airtime reached all-time highs last year and we have now proudly announced an important new contract with them."

Gow also believes that the quality of the grid has improved and pointed to the four former champions - Matt Neal, Jason Plato, Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington - in the 2013 entry.

"We have a huge grid - including four champions in the line-up - culminating in fresh colours, cars and stars in the BTCC," he added.

"The strength in depth continues to rise along with the undoubted professionalism and turnout of our loyal and committed teams."
