Casey Stoner: V8 Supercars targets almost impossible to set
Casey Stoner says it is almost impossible to set targets for his first season in the V8 Supercar Development Series given his lack of four-wheel experience
The two-time MotoGP champion signed a one-year deal to race a Triple 8 Holden Commodore on Saturday.
Stoner has had one full-test with the team already, but said it would count for little come the start of the season and that he would need to 'fast track' his development as a result.
"I really don't know how I will go to be honest,'' he confessed.
"I have had one proper test in the car. I went well but it doesn't mean anything.
"I haven't been against anyone in similar cars or been on different tracks. There are a lot of things to learn and I am trying to fast track it.
"I am trying to get on the simulator to learn the tracks, [but] that is as much as I can do really.
"I have no expectations except that I want to enjoy it and not get too wound up."
Having initially denied reports that he would race in V8 Supercars, Stoner said that he had originally intended to "have a full year off and maybe even see the world a bit."
Despite his subsequent reversal, he insists he had definitively ruled out joining the main V8 Supercars championship.
He did however say he was not ruling out racing in this year's Bathurst 1000 should an offer of a drive arise.
"I had no real thoughts of going straight into the main game, unless I could get massive amounts of testing," he explained.
"I doubt anyone would want me at Bathurst but I am not ruling it out. It is every Aussie's dream to drive there."
