Vallelunga Superstars: Gianni Morbidelli leads Audi practice sweep

Gianni Morbidelli led an Audi 1-2-3 in the International Superstars Series' first practice session at Vallelunga in Rome

Morbidelli leapt to the top of the standings mid-way through the 30-minute session with a 1m41.486s in his Audi Sport Italia RS5. The time remained unbeaten right to the chequered flag.

Johan Kristoffersson finished second in the KMS Audi, less than two tenths behind Morbidelli. The Swede was quiet for the first half of the session, before setting his best of a 1m41.607s with nine minutes remaining.

It was a similar story for Thomas Schoffler, the MTM Audi driver jumping to third from near the bottom inside the last 10 minutes.

Behind the Audis, the big surprise performance came from Giovanni Berton. On his debut in Superstars, Berton took his Dinamic BMW to fourth, just edging out the Solaris Chevrolet of Francesco Sini.

Championship leader Tonio Liuzzi could manage just sixth in the CAAL Racing Mercedes, one place ahead of his former Formula 1 rival Giancarlo Fisichella, who is making his Superstars debut for Swiss Team Maserati this weekend.

Paolo Meloni (W&D Racing BMW) was eighth, ahead of Dinamic BMw's lead driver Thomas Biagi.

Mauro Cesari rounded out the top 10 in the second Swiss Team Maserati.
