Giancarlo Fisichella to race Maserati in Superstars

The grand prix winner is set to drive a Maserati for the Swiss Racing Team in the 6-7 October event.

"Being in Superstars is a new challenge for me," said Fisichella.

"The Maserati has already proved a winner last year with Andrea Bertolini and it would be great to be equally competitive right from the start at Vallelunga, as it will be a unique chance for me.

"Being able to race at my home circuit, a few kilometres away from home, will be an additional motivation to chase victory in front of many friends and the fans joining us on-track."

Fisichella, who won three Formula 1 races during a 14-year grand prix career with Minardi, Jordan, Benetton/Renault, Sauber, Force India and Ferrari, has been part of Ferrari's GT racing roster since retiring from F1 at the end of 2009.

He took the GTE Pro title in last year's Le Mans Series, sharing with Gianmaria Bruni, and also won the class at the Le Mans 24 Hours this season.

Fellow ex-F1 racers Mika Salo, Christian Fittipaldi, Johnny Herbert and Christian Klien have already made guest appearances in the Maserati earlier this season, while Tonio Liuzzi is contesting the full series with the CAAL Mercedes team and Gianni Morbidelli races for Audi Sport Italia.
