Monza F2: Luciano Bacheta champion as Christopher Zanella wins finale

Luciano Bacheta clinched the 2012 Formula 2 title with third place, as Christopher Zanella won the Monza season finale

Bacheta's task was made much easier when his championship rival Matheo Tuscher - who needed a victory to snatch the title - dropped to ninth at the start.

Although Tuscher battled back to fifth, Bacheta's third place was sufficient to wrap up the crown and the Williams Formula 1 prize test.

Zanella took the lead from poleman Markus Pommer into the first corner and then edged away to win by 4.7 seconds.

Pommer was subsequently demoted to third by Kevin Mirocha, before dropping out of the podium fight when a tyre deflated approaching the Roggia chicane.

That elevated Bacheta to third, where he would remain to the finish - occasionally taking a look at Mirocha, and later having to focus on pressure from Mihai Marinescu on his tail before securing the crown with a podium.

Behind Marinescu and the recovering Tuscher, Alex Fontana completed the top six.
