Biffle takes Cup win at Michigan

23:14 NASCAR - Michigan: Greg Biffle claims his first win of the season at Michigan International Speedway! That's his fourth win at the circuit, Ford's 33rd - and also the manufacturer's 1,000th in NASCAR's top level.

Results: 1 Biffle; 2 Harvick; 3 Truex; 4 Kyle Busch; 5 Stewart; 6 Kenseth; 7 Bowyer; 8 Edwards; 9 Logano; 10 Burton.

23:11 NASCAR - Michigan: Johnson's charge ends with a brush against the wall! He's now in the pits with front right tyre damage. It's Biffle's now, surely.

23:06 NASCAR - Michigan: 10 to go and this is really building to a crescendo. Biffle leads ahead of Harvick but Johnson's charging, getting the gap down to just 1.5s to the leader. He'll have to pass Harvick if he's to have any chance of passing for the win, though - and he does! Game on.

22:57 NASCAR - Michigan: 25 laps to go, can we stay green all the way?

22:47 NASCAR - Michigan: Still under caution with just over 30 laps to run. Those green flag stops had handed Logano the lead, but he took on four tyres. Johnson only took on two tyres but still dropped places because it's a slow stop.

Could Keselowski come to the fore now? Does Johnson have enough left? Or will the four new tyre-shod cars of Edwards or Logano come through?

22:44 NASCAR - Michigan: Carl Edwards pits having lost the lead to Greg Biffle several laps previously. He takes on four new tyres - he's aiming to go to the end. There's a caution for McMurray, who's blown a tyre, so this should be fascinating. The crucial point of the race?

22:33 NASCAR - Michigan: Crunch time, 50 laps to go. Edwards leads Logano, Biffle, Kenseth and Truex Jr. The poleman leads with 75% of the race run - but there's been a right mess of action in between.

The driver in sixth is an interesting one - Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski. He's had a near-anonymous race thus far but is now in the top six. Jimmie Johnson, having taken on more tyres than anyone else during that last caution, has made it back up to 12th.

22:27 NASCAR - Michigan: Earnhardt on his engine blowout: "Real proud of the car, we were really struggling in practice and that car was just flying there. They [the team] will figure it out. I hate it. We ought to be out there running at the front still."

22:24 NASCAR - Michigan: 65 laps to go and it's green again in Michigan.

22:17 NASCAR - Michigan: There you go - Earnhardt's Hendrick Chevrolet goes up spectacularly in smoke, which means the seventh caution of the race.

Johnson leads the train into the pits and fits four news tyres, dropping a number of places as a result.

22:15 NASCAR - Michigan: Earnhardt is slowing, and running on the inside of the track. He was two seconds slower than the chasing Johnson the lap before he pulled to one side. He's continuing - but for how much longer? That means Johnson, incredibly, leads again - ahead of Biffle and Kenseth.

22:08 Kasey Kahne on wrecking from the lead: "I had no indication. We were kinda cruising. I knew it was going to be a battle with Jimmie today, he's fast, but I thought we were really good. I felt really good about it."

However, amid his disappointment, Kahne recognises there are sometimes more important things than crashing out of the lead. "I know it's been a tough week for a lot of people," he added. "Jason Leffler was a good buddy of mine. It's neat to see how everybody supported him over the last four/five days. It tells you what kind of person he was."

22:04 NASCAR - Michigan: So as we resume on lap 112, Earnhardt is again the leader. Kenseth, Biffle, Logano and Edwards make up the top five. There have been 11 leaders so far, but these five have been there or thereabouts throughout.

21:52 NASCAR - Michigan: That caution sparks a rush to the pits, with Earnhardt turned around quickly but Johnson looking like the biggest loser of the leaders - yep, he's dropped down to 17th now (which, in fairness, becomes 7th once the stops have shaken out). Still, if the #48 car wins today, it'll be one of the hardest it will have seen.

21:51 NASCAR - Michigan: Drama for Kasey Kahne! The race leader hits the wall hard at Turn 2. A blown right front tyre led to a hefty impact. There's a fire, a lot of smoke, and a lot of fluid apparently running down the track...

21:46 NASCAR - Michigan: 100 laps down, 100 laps to go. Kasey Khane has passed Earnhardt and pulled out nearly a four second lead. Johnson, incredibly, is scrapping with Matt Kenseth for third having slipped out of the top 10 following his poor restart. Completing the top five is Kevin Harvick, who had run second for a short while.

The rest of the top 10 looks like this: 6 Biffle; 7 Logano; 8 Almirola; 9 Stewart; 10 Edwards.

21:34 NASCAR - Michigan: Away again after the fifth caution of the race. Earnhardt leads but Johnson has been swamped.

NASCAR - Michigan: We did think it was becoming too clear a run...debris high at Turn 1 brings out the yellow. Jimmie Johnson leads the cars down pit road.

Earnhardt Jr. jumps him to take the lead. Which means there's no better time to show Dale's special National Guard livery for this weekend, encompassing the release of the new Superman movie, Man of Steel.

21:26 NASCAR - Michigan: Lap 75, and Jimmie Johnson has been at the front for 12 laps. It's an impressive performance from the points leader so far - he fell out of the top 20 after a poor start, then pit, rejoining in 31st place. His ascension has been metronomic - picking cars off lap after lap.

Behind him, 1.5s back, is Kahne, with the duo well clear of Dale Earnhardt Jr, Martin Truex Jr and Joey Logano (who led for 17 laps). Recovering from his penalty in 15th is Kyle Busch.

21:12 NASCAR - Michigan: Update as we pass quarter-distance, this is your top five: 1 McMurray; 2 Dillon; 3 Johnson; 4 Edwards; 5 Kahne.

21:09 NASCAR - Michigan: Lap 46: Restart. Danica Patrick, who was fifth by virtue of the leaders all stopping, falls to 15th immediately. Jamie McMurray and Austin Dillon head de facto race leader Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson, who has put in a great drive so far.

21:02 NASCAR - Michigan: Lap 41 - Another Kurt Busch-inspired caution. There's debris from his car at Turn 1. The leaders pit, and once again it's Edwards who emerges in front.

20:55 NASCAR - Michigan: Joey Logano, from the outside lane, leads Edwards away as the race restarts on lap 32.

20:50 NASCAR - Michigan: A caution again! Lap 29, and it's Kurt Busch! He spins from fourth at Turn 2.

20:46 NASCAR - Michigan: Lap 25 - we are green again. Kyle Busch restarts in 34th after a penalty. Michael McDowell leads away but Edwards is the effective leader.

20:41 NASCAR - Michigan: Only eight - EIGHT - cars stay out on track in the first pitstops. Most drivers who pit take on two tyres, and it's Edwards who emerges in front having gained four positions.

20:38 NASCAR - Michigan: There's that competition yellow. This is the top 10 after 20 laps. 1 Busch; 2 Kenseth; 3 Logano; 4 Menard; 5 Edwards; 6 Kahne; 7 Stewart; 8 Kyle Busch; 9 Earnhardt Jr; 10 Montoya.

The big movers so far are Stewart (up seven places from 14th) and Greg Biffle, who is 12th having started 19th. Jimmie Johnson, meanwhile, has recovered to 14th already!

20:32 NASCAR - Michigan: Green again in Michigan. Kurt Busch leads the pack away - during that caution, points leader Johnson pit, and restarted in 31st.

20:25 NASCAR - Michigan: Six laps in, and we have our first caution. Jeff Gordon and Bobby Labonte come to blows - the latter lost control and spun, with Gordon having nowhere to go. The pair hit the barrier on the outside and slewed on to the infield.

20:21 NASCAR - Michigan: We are racing! Carl Edwards leads the field away on the outside, but almost immediately slips back after what looks like slight contact with Kurt Busch. He's down to fifth.

20:11 NASCAR - Michigan: Niklas Kronwall utters those famous words - Drivers, start your engines. We're fired up, ready to go at Michigan International Speedway. Carl Edwards gets ready to lead the field away to start lap one of 200.

20:04 NASCAR - Michigan: National anthem time, but before that, a moment to remember Jason Leffler, the Sprint Cup driver who died in mid-week from injuries sustained in a short-track race. Nice touch, NASCAR.

19:55 NASCAR - Michigan: Michigan is a 400-mile, 200-lap brute of a race - but we already know on lap 20 there will be a competition yellow. Organisers say it will give teams chance to adjust after a lot of rain fell overnight.

NASCAR - Michigan: The 15th race of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup will be headed away by Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch.

Edwards ran early - sixth on track in his Roush Fenway Ford - in qualifying to claim pole position. Defending champion Brad Keselowski will line up in 16th, one place ahead of points leader Jimmie Johnson.

19:26 MotoGP - Barcelona: Lorenzo may have won the race and edged even closer to Pedrosa in the points, but he's still not a totally happy man.

Following Pedrosa's lamenting of poor front tyre performance, the defending champion has also criticised the tyres - saying Bridgestone should introduce a harder compound.

19:14 MotoGP - Barcelona: Back to Spain very quickly, and a look at the MotoGP riders' championship.

Jorge Lorenzo's home grand prix win means he’s cut Pedrosa's championship lead to just seven points after back-to-back victories.

19:11 DTM - Lausitz: BMW motorsport chief Jens Marquardt has had his say on a disappointing return to Lausitz, where the manufacturer took the first win of its comeback in 2012. This year Bruno Spengler could only manage seventh place as the highest BMW finisher.

"Bruno's seventh place was a successful case of damage limitation," Marquardt said. "In the DTM if you are not 100 per cent on the ball then you will be well down the field. Our opponents experienced this in the past few races, and this time it was our turn to suffer.

"We will now analyse the race weekend in detail and draw our own conclusions. We hope to get back to the kind of good results we enjoyed at the start of the season."

19:08 Euro RX - Hell: Liam Doran's Norweigan European Rallycross Championship round got off to the worst possible start after he made a self-confessed "stupid" mistake, but it turned out rather nicely for the Brit in the end.
