Dramatic moment on the main straight between Magnussen and Gasly, who end up wheel to wheel across the start/finish line.
Hamilton rejoins. That was very undramatic, he didn't lock up, he must have just detected that he wasn't going to make the corner and bailed out nice and early.
While Hamilton avoided a lock-up, Sainz has just had a huge one that has surely ruined his right-front. Hartley has just locked up and been off at Turn 1 as well. The braking zones are proving tricky as the drivers start to push more.
Hamilton goes fastest by just over a tenth with a 1m45.200s.
More improvements at Force India, with Ocon slotting into fifth behind team-mate Perez.
Ricciardo retakes top spot with a 1m45.150s, which is 0.050s faster than Hamilton.
"Very little grip at the rear," says Grosjean. He's told to give the tyres a chance to build some more temperature.
Bottas goes fastest by a big chunk - 0.908s - with a 1m44.242s on new ultrasofts.
Ocon has moved above Perez with another improvement, as the Force Indias sit fifth and sixth.
Grosjean has been off the road at Turn 15. He makes a quick spin-turn and rejoins the action.
Ricciardo improves to reduce Bottas's margin to just under four tenths.
More drama for Grosjean, who has locked up and been off at Turn 1 now as well. And so has Hulkenberg, as the TV director tries to keep up with all these trips into the escape roads.
Stroll improves, and he puts the Williams ninth. Team-mate Sirotkin is just ahead in eighth. With the Force Indias also in the top 10, this session is going better than the rest of the season has for the Mercedes customer teams.
Ricciardo is seven laps into this run on supersofts, and he improves again to end up just 0.035s down on Bottas's ultrasoft time. Red Bull in the hunt again?
Hulkenberg is struggling to even make it back to the pits, the vibrations from his flat-spotted tyre are so bad.
Top 10 with a little more than a quarter of an hour left in FP1: 1 Bottas, 2 Ricciardo, 3 Hamilton, 4 Ocon, 5 Verstappen, 6 Perez, 7 Alonso, 8 Sirotkin, 9 Stroll, 10 Hulkenberg.
The Force India seems to need careful balance on the brakes to be hooked up in the corner. It suggests some of their problems are ride height dependent. When it’s right, it looks fine.
Ocon is told that he is losing some time by braking earlier, and not as hard, for Turn 3, and his next lap is a new personal best.
An improvement from Gasly, who sits just above team-mate Hartley in 15th now.
Vettel sneaks a Ferrari into the top 10 in ninth. He's 2.2 seconds off the pace.
Force India and Perez engage in some radio traffic that seems to be for the benefit of race control, accusing Magnussen of not getting out of the way between Turns 7-12.
