Jenson Button believes he can turn his difficult Spanish Grand Prix weekend around in the race

The McLaren driver was eliminated in Q2 in Spain, after failing to find a good balance on his car, but will start 10th on the grid following Lewis Hamilton's demotion to the back of the field.

But although conceding that his difficulties make it unlikely he can repeat the kind of charge that Kimi Raikkonen delivered in Bahrain, Button still thinks progress is possible.

"It is not the easiest as we have seen in the past," explained Button. "We saw a lot more overtaking last year than previous years with KERS and the DRS, and I overtook Fernando [Alonso] and Mark [Webber] within one lap, so it is possible to overtake here.

"If we have a good car, and it is in the right place and working, we will have a really good race. Starting P10, there are a lot of points up for grabs - and as you saw with Kimi, he qualified in P11 in Bahrain and he almost won the race - so there are a lot of opportunities still."

Button says he has not really found the answer for his balance struggles over the Spanish weekend.

"I've had a lot of understeer in high speed, but a very unstable rear end in low speed," he said. "So it has been difficult to try and understand the balance and try to improve it.

"We have tried many different things to try and get temperature into the tyre. Some have worked but basically I don't feel I had the car in qualifying that I had in practice.

"I know the pace is there, as Lewis did a fantastic job all the way through qualifying - and it shows the pace is there. But being one second off, you know something is not right and you are not turning something on."
