Gordon Shedden still quickest in British Touring Car practice at Thruxton

Gordon Shedden continued to dominate the Thruxton British Touring Car weekend by topping the second free practice session on Saturday afternoon

The works Honda driver had been a second clear of the pack in the first session and repeated the feat in the damp second outing. His 1m22.080s was the only effort under 1m23s, with Jason Plato second in his works MG6.

Shedden's team-mate Matt Neal left it late to start recording competitive times, but his Honda ended up third, less than one tenth ahead of the similar Eurotech Civic of Andrew Jordan, which seemed to run without the electrical problems that hampered his first session.

Dave Newsham's ES Racing Vauxhall Vectra was fifth and top S2000 machine, while Jeff Smith made it four Civics in the top six, 0.3 seconds slower than team-mate Jordan.

Donington Park race winner Mat Jackson was seventh in the quickest of Motorbase's Ford Focuses as team-mate Aron Smith struggled with transmission woes.

Frank Wrathall (Dynojet Toyota), Rob Collard (WSR BMW) and the Proton of Dan Welch rounded out the top 10, the latter despite completing only four laps after an aggressive run across the chicane kerbs appeared to damage the car.

Rob Austin's Audi failed to appear, but his team hopes the new engine - delivered just before the session - will be ready in time for qualifying later in the afternoon.
