Alex Lynn tops final day of Silverstone British Formula 3 test for Fortec

Reigning Formula Renault UK champion Alex Lynn ended the Carlin domination of British Formula 3 Championship pre-season testing by going fastest on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit for Fortec

Lynn was quickest in each of the three sessions on the final day of the test in his Dallara-Mercedes, setting three laps good enough to set the overall pace in the opening session and topping the day in 1m53.530s.

Further encouragement for Fortec came as his Dutch team-mate Hannes van Asseldonk chased Lynn up the order to third best on the day.

Track temperatures were warmer than on the opening day, and nobody could approach Carlos Sainz Jr's Wednesday best. The Spaniard remained right in the mix in the Thursday running, splitting the Fortec pair in Carlin's lead Dallara-Volkswagen. He was 0.153s slower than Lynn.

Fellow Carlin drivers Harry Tincknell and Jack Harvey were the other drivers within half a second of Lynn.

Of the late-starting T-Sport and Double R Racing men, Nick McBride (T-Sport) narrowly pipped Fahmi Ilyas (Double R) as the Malaysian sliced nearly 2s off his Wednesday best on just his second day of running after his winter lay-off.

F3 veteran Hywel Lloyd rejoined the fray to take his CF Racing machine to the fastest time in the National Class, as he still seeks a driver to run in this year's series.

In the same class, Dan Cammish had his maiden F3 run-out with T-Sport and ended up within 0.1s of team-mate Spike Goddard. Cammish suffered from tiredness and is expected to gain pace once he can be fitted in the car properly.
