Jack Harvey leads Rockingham British Formula 3 test for Carlin

Britain's Jack Harvey topped the first day of this week's British Formula 3 International Series test at Rockingham as the Volkswagen-powered Carlin squad took another clean sweep of the top five

Harvey, returning for a second season with Carlin, unleashed a run of three laps in the afternoon session that were all quicker than anyone else managed. He ended up nearly a third of a second clear.

Fellow Briton Harry Tincknell cheekily snuck into second place with pretty much the last lap of the day to deny Carlos Sainz Jr - who hotfooted it to Rockingham late on Monday evening after Barcelona's GP3 test.

F3 rookie Alex Lynn was the only man to threaten to break into the Carlin quintet, and comfortably outpaced his Fortec Motorsport team-mates. Fortec is still playing catch-up after Carlin got a head-start of a day's running at Pembrey before the official tests kicked off.

T-Sport's new Nissan project hit the tracks and F3 newcomer Nick McBride did a respectable job to narrowly tail the rest of the Fortec runners. The Tomei-tuned Nissan powerplant was at or near the top of all the speed traps.

An all-Australian National Class was headed by T-Sport's Spike Goddard as compatriot Duvashen Padayachee joined the fray with Double R Racing. Double R is picking up a new 'A'-class Dallara this week and should hopefully confirm a driver soon for the series' top division.

Times were much slower than before, but the F3 field is using a different circuit layout this year, with an elongated infield loop, which is 0.11 miles longer than the previous track.
