Ryan Briscoe praises oval handling of new Dallara IndyCar after Texas test
Ryan Briscoe has praised the handling of IndyCar's new Dallara DW12 on ovals after testing a revised version of the car at Texas this week
The Penske driver joined Tony Kanaan of KV Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport's Alex Tagliani at the test to try out a series of developments to improve the performance of the new chassis on ovals.
Changes to the car included new mirrors, rear wheel fairings, and what the series described as 'subtle differences in chassis construction'.
"It all feels pretty normal right now - normal in a good way," said Briscoe. "The balance feels really good around here.
"We're really just getting a feel for different downforce levels and the different suspension options that we have."
IndyCar's vice president of technology Will Phillips reported that the drivers had not reported any issues with the modified cars.
"This test is the baseline," said Phillips. "Nothing negative has really stood out, and none of the drivers had any real complaints. Now we'll decide what our next step is."
Tagliani was having his first proper test in the DW12 on an oval, and was pleased with his early running.
"Overall, I think it was a good day," he said. "For our first time on an oval in the new car, we learned some amazing things.
"Of course, we still have some work to do and we didn't have as much speed as we would have liked, but every time I came into the pits with a change, the guys were able to make it happen."
The next oval test for the DW12 is scheduled to take place at Texas in the middle of March.
