VW completes full-specification Polo R WRC test in Norway

Volkswagen Motorsport has released images of its full-specification Polo R WRC testing for the first time in Norway last week

After running a mule Polo labeled the 'zero' car, last week's test was the first running at competitive speed for the complete World Rally Car built to 2013 specification.

The 'zero' car was driven for around four months, used as a test bed for various components in various conditions on both asphalt and gravel. The Polo which ran last week has been labeled 'car one'.

VW test driver Dieter Depping drove the car for the first morning, before handing over to Sebastien Ogier, who completed in excess of 650 miles on the roads around Kongsvinger.

The team's first test was run in snow for logistical reasons, with much of the team already in place following Rally Sweden. Ogier's Skoda Fabia S2000 was also driven on the test to provide benchmark timing - having competed against the Citroen DS3 WRC and Ford Fiesta RS WRC in Sweden - for the Polo R WRC.

No official comment was made on the test, but it was described as successful by a spokesperson. Much of the week was spent putting miles on the clock rather than making specific set-up changes. Changes which were made to the car came in the suspension and transmission department.

The team will now shift its attention to Spain next week, when the Polo will run on gravel for the first time.
