Dave Newsham moves to Team ES for 2012 British Touring Car Championship
British Touring Car racer Dave Newsham has joined Team ES for this season
Former Renault Clio Cup champion Newsham stepped into the BTCC last year in a Geoff Steel Racing BMW. He then switched to the Special Tuning Racing SEAT squad and scored a best finish of fourth.
He has now joined ES, which ran team boss Chris James in a Chevrolet Lacetti last season.
"Chris is a passionate guy, I saw that from last year, racing with him and talking to him in the paddock," said Newsham. "He's very ambitious and wants to see his cars at the front.
"I learnt a lot last year and I feel that I can put that to good use this year. Having a quick car is going to help, and if all things go well we should get some podiums and maybe sneak a win or two."
James, who is planning to run at least two turbocharged machines, said: "We've been in talks with Dave for some time now and we're glad we can finally announce that he will be driving for us in 2012.
"Last year was tough for us with one of the oldest cars on the grid, but moving forward we are pleased to confirm Dave for the team.
"Dave and I are very much alike, we both call a spade a spade. I am delighted to bring him into our team as he is a very skilful driver with a proven track record."
ES has not yet confirmed what car it will use during 2012.
