Vasser Disappointed
While his Target/Chip Ganassi team-mate Juan Montoya nearly won the pole, Jimmy Vasser was the seventh fastest qualifier in Saturday's qualifications.
Vasser was expected to make a run at the pole, but his plan was hampered when electrical problems kept him off the track for much of Friday's practice session.
"I'm not happy, but we'll take it," Vasser said. "The car had all the qualifying stuff on it, but we didn't get much time on it because we had electrical problems. We were getting smoke from the dash.
"If you noticed, Juan Montoya put a lot of miles on his car yesterday, and that's what we were supposed to do. It's a process that we were not able to go through due to electrical problems. So we had to put all the stuff back on the car, which caused a lot of drag.
"When I was out qualifying, I wanted to come in after a couple of laps. Tom Anderson (team general manager) said, `This place can bite you. Let's get it in the show.' We could have come in and chased it and not made the show. We're happy to be back in the race."
