Sato holds pole in hot session

Takuma Sato held pole position for the sixth round of the British Formula Three Championship as the second session proved to be hotter than the first, causing track grip levels to drop

Antonio Pizzonia had it all to do in afternoon practice after being disqualified from the morning session for dangerous driving after an on-track incident with Warren Carway.

The championship leading Brazilian was one of the few people to manage a reasonable time in the second session and did enough to put himself fifth on the grid, behind Sato, Nicolas Kiesa in the lead RC Motorsport entry, Pizzonia's title rival Tomas Scheckter and Kiesa's impressive team-mate Milos Pavlovic.

Andrew Kirkaldy starred in only his second meeting since returning to the championship, qualifying seventh for the brand new Team Avanti outfit.

Juan-Manuel Lopez continued the improved form he displayed in last week's Snetterton test to line up eighth in the number two Manor Motorsport entry, but there was more misery for Promatecme, Andy Priaulx and Matt Davies only qualifying tenth and 12th respectively.

Gary Paffett continued to set the Scholarship Class pace but was again pushed hard by the increasingly impressive Atsushi Katsumata.
