Bortolotti cruises to victory in final race of season

Once again no-one was able to live with the Italian's consistency, and an advantage which had passed the two second mark on only the fourth lap was eventually extended to a winning margin of just over eight seconds.

As was the case yesterday, Bortolotti's control of the race was summed up by the comfort with which he set the fastest lap - more than eight tenths clear of the next best. Victory leaves him with a tally of seven wins and 14 podiums from the 2011 season.

"It's been a great season for us," Bortolotti said. "I'm really happy to finish the year in this way, it's my way to say goodbye to the people I worked with. Its been a pleasure, and hopefully I can go on next year."

Bortolotti was followed home by Spain's Ramon Pineiro, who came close to stealing the lead at the start. He held the inside line heading into Turn 1, but Bortolotti kept calm on the outside and was able to move into a lead he would never surrender through the Elf/Renault complex.

Behind them, Mihai Marinescu got the jump on Miki Monras for third as the field pulled away at the start. Monras kept Marinescu honest but could not find a way through.

Alex Brundle was another fast starter as he worked his way up to fifth, which he preserved until the chequered flag despite the attentions of Kelvin Snoeks and championship runner-up Christopher Zanella.

Mikkel Mac was able to make it a four-way fight in the closing stages, but as was the case yesterday overtaking proved a premium on the Catalan circuit.

Behind them Jack Clarke denied Benjamin Lariche in the fight for ninth, while Tobias Hegewald - who had started seventh - fought back from a first lap off to finish 11th.
