Williams and Sauber happy after first day test

BMW WilliamsF1 Team and Sauber Petronas ended yesterday's test at Jerez in fairly up-beat mood. Although the Sauber of Perdo Diniz suffered engine failure, the Brazilian completed 59 laps and was content with the car's performance, despite being 2.2 seconds off the pace

"Despite my engine failure, we had a good day," said Diniz. "I set my best time in the morning when the track was not at its best, but the aerodynamic configuration that we tried felt good and I'm looking forward to continue that line of research."

Meanwhile at Williams, Ralf Schumacher and Jenson Button completed 68 laps between them in their preparation for the forthcoming European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.

"I am happy with today's testing," said Schumacher. "We could go through our testing programme in order to find a good set-up for the Nurburgring race next week."

"We weren't really looking to set a good time, but rather test new things on the car," said Button, who was last at this track earlier this year when he tested for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team before he had officially signed for them. "I have quite good memories of those days on this circuit," he said.
