Kevin Magnussen dominates British Formula 3 race one at Silverstone

The Dane started from pole and led from lights-to-flag to record his seventh win of the year and leap ahead of Carlin team-mate Carlos Huertas in the five-way fight for second in the points.

Double R Racing's Scott Pye continued his strong end to the year by jumping champion elect Felipe Nasr (Carlin) at the start to finish second. The 2010 British Formula Ford champion could not live with Magnussen's pace, but controlled the gap back to Nasr and deservedly recorded his best result yet in a full points F3 race.

Nasr ran third throughout a highly processional affair. His Carlin team-mate Rupert Svendsen-Cook made an early challenge for the final podium spot after a strong start, but spun after what appeared to be contact at Becketts and later retired to the pits.

That left Nasr clear in third until a late challenge from charging team-mate Jazeman Jaafar.

After getting squeezed by Carlin running mate Carlos Huertas as the field emerged from Copse for the first time, Jaafar had fallen behind fast-starting Fortec driver Lucas Foresti (up from 10th on the grid).

Foresti held fourth for the first third of the race, until Jaafar jumped him after getting a better run onto the Wellington straight on lap six of 15. From there, the Malaysian did well to close his champion team-mate Nasr down, but could not quite get close enough to try a pass for the podium.

Foresti finished a lonely fifth, while a similarly strong opening lap from his Fortec team-mate Will Buller elevated the Northern Irishman into the top six from 11th on the grid.

He led a closely-matched five-car train home, which also included Huertas, Motopark's fast-starting Alexander Sims (up from 12th on the grid), Pietro Fantin (Hitech) and Carlin's Jack Harvey.

GP3 frontrunner Mitch Evans (Double R) ran on the back of this group early on, but spun out at Chapel midway through the race.
