Schumacher questions Barcelona safety

Michael Schumacher has slated safety standards at one of the fastest corners of the Circuito de Catalunya

He said the crash barriers were not sufficient at the 150mph exit bend to Banc Sabadell -- the second last corner on the track.

And he added that officials had for years ignored driver calls for the barrier to be improved.

The frustrated championship leader went public with his concerns because of inaction from local authorities.

He played down criticisms of 140mph New Holland bend onto the pit straight near where Mario Haberfeld crashed in Formula 3000 qualifying on Friday.

"Having an angle where the barrier comes back is never a good thing but they have done the best job there they can in the circumstances," said Schumacher.

"But the corner before is quite a fast corner. There is just two rows of tyres and no conveyor belt. That's not up to the level that is expected.

"There are a couple of other things that aren't perfect but I hope something gets done for the future.

"We have asked for many years for something to be done and not much has happened. That's why I am talking about it and putting a bit of pressure on them.

"I hope they will respond."
