Pizzonia sets testing pace

Antonio Pizzonia set the pace in testing prior to this weekend's Donington Park double-header

The series leader and double race-winner was only marginally quicker than Takuma Sato in the Carlin Motorsport entry however.

"The traffic was a bit difficult at times, but it is looking good for the weekend," said the Brazilian.

Sato felt he could have gone quicker had he been able to put in a proper run on new tyres, but the session was stopped after Scholarship Class privateer Phil Hopkins crashed.

Andy Priaulx underlined Promatecme's improved form by topping the morning times and finishing third overall.

"It's down to a lot of hard work from all the team," said boss Chris Weller. "Engineers, mechanics and drivers have all raised their game and the results mean that we are much more competitive."

Andrew Kirkaldy was 16th quickest on his return to the championship in the Team Avanti Dallara-Speiss Opel. Gary Paffett continued to set the Scholarship Class pace, but was again under pressure from the ever-improving Atsushi Katsumata.
