Luca Filippi stays on top iin a rain-hit second practice in Valencia

Luca Filippi maintained his impressive start to the Valencia weekend by topping the second AutoGP practice session, although his cause was aided by a sudden downpour just after he set his fastest time

Having also set the pace in first practice, Super Nova's Filippi became the first driver to dip under the 1m23s bracket as he made a flying start to the final warm-up session ahead of qualifying.

On old rubber, Filippi's best effort was more than a second clear of DAMS driver Sergey Afanasiev - who sits directly behind him in the championship - when the rain fell, leaving the Italian with another commanding gap over the rest of the field.

Afanasiev was one of the few drivers other than Filippi to improve upon their P1 time, but any hopes he had of topping the session was ended by the sudden downpour.

Championship leader Kevin Ceccon was third fastest, although the Ombra racer was more than 1.5s slower than the man bidding to wrest the points lead from him this weekend.

Lazarus driver Fabio Onidi finished just 0.02s of a second down the road in fourth, while behind him Campos returnee Adam Carroll beat Lazarus man Fabrizio Crestani to fifth by a similar margin.

DAMS' Rio Haryanto was seventh fastest and the last man to finish within 2s of Filippi; Carroll's team-mate Adrien Tambay in eighth ending 2.224s adrift.

Giovanni Venturini of Durango and Daniel De Jong of MP Motorsport rounded out the top 10.
