AutoGP plans 2012 global expansion

All three fly-aways would come at the end of a proposed eight-event calendar - one more than in 2011 - with Curitiba, Sonoma and Suzuka the planned destinations.

AutoGP said it intends to hold all eight events in 2012 alongside the WTCC, whom they partnered for the first time at the start of 2011.

Series boss Enzo Coloni admitted plans were still in the early stages, but insisted improving the series year-on-year had always been the aim when it was created in 2009.

"We believe that the time has come to raise the bar," Coloni declared. "Our aim for 2012 is an improved calendar, with one more race compared to this year.

"This means racing for the whole season together with the World Touring Car Championship, including three intercontinental events in Brazil, USA and Japan.

"Improving step by step has always been our philosophy, and 2011 was a key year thanks to our agreement with WTCC and Eurosport.

"We are speaking about this with the WTCC and their attitude on the matter is very positive."

AutoGP's proposed calendar would see them start at Monza, and visit Valencia, Donington Park, Budapest and Brno before the fly-away events.

The WTCC meanwhile have not announced plans for 2012 and would need FIA ratification before confirming next year's schedule.
