Keselowski to skip Nationwide race, team to evaluate recovery ahead of Pocono

Brad Keselowski will miss Saturday's Nationwide Series Race while the team will evaluate his recovery at Pocono, following his testing shunt on Wednesday.

Brad Keselowski will miss Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Iowa in the hope of being fit for the following day's Sprint Cup event at Pocono.

Keselowski was airlifted to hospital after crashing while during a test at Road Atlanta on Wednesday, with the driver saying that the incident had happened following a suspected brake failure as he headed into the first corner of the lap.

He was due to be compete in both the Iowa Nationwide race and the Pocono Sprint Cup race, but Penske has now ruled him out of the former event and will instead evaluate his fitness at Pocono.

"Due to Brad Keselowski's accident while testing at Road Atlanta yesterday, he will not participate in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race this weekend at Iowa Speedway," said the team.

"Parker Kligerman will practice the #22 Dodge Challenger on Friday, while Sam Hornish Jr will qualify and race the car on Saturday. Penske Racing will continue to evaluate Brad's condition. Further information will be provided as it becomes known."

Keselowski, who was able to exit his wrecked car without assistance, had some cuts to one of his legs and swelling on his left ankle. X-rays taken at hospital showed up no further injuries.

He is still in contention for a potential Chase berth thanks to his victory from earlier this year at Kansas, although he ranks 21st in the points.
