Adam Carroll to make Auto GP debut at Donington Park with Campos
Adam Carroll will compete in Auto GP for the rest of the season after joining Campos Racing
The 28-year-old Northern Irishman, who has not raced full-time for three years, will make his series debut at Donington Park this weekend.
"Joining Auto GP is a really welcome opportunity," said Carroll, a podium finisher in a one-off Formula Renault 3.5 outing at the Hungaroring recently.
"I was following the series from the outside and getting in with a well-prepared team like Campos Racing is staggering.
"I think that my recent podium in World Series [FR3.5] showed that my competitiveness is intact even if I didn't have many occasion to race last year, so I have high expectations.
"I must remember that the Series level is very high and it's my first time with a new team, so we will need a bit of time to know each other. I'm really looking forward to it."
The former McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award nominee has raced only sporadically since taking Ireland to the 2008/09 A1GP title, but made two IndyCar appearances last year and is aiming for a career in the US-based series.
Series boss Enzo Coloni, who ran Carroll to two wins in GP2 in 2007, thinks that he will be competitive straight away.
"I know Adam and his talent very well, as he raced for our GP2 team," he said.
"So it's a real pleasure for me to see him in Auto GP, I'm sure that he will be huge value for the Series and also to fulfill the great potential of Campos Racing."
Carroll replaces Marco Barba, who has not only left the team, but also taken a sabbatical from racing.
