Marquardt promises no big changes to BMW's racing programmes

Marquardt officially took full control of BMW's motorsport division last week, when Theissen retired from his role at the company following a handover period in the first half of this year.

"The way we have been working in the past has been very successful in the past so we don't need to change anything," said Marquardt. "It has worked very well.

"We have a philosophy for everything we do and that does not need to change."

The new boss made his first official appearance in his new role at the DTM race at the Norisring last weekend, where he attended a media preview of the new-for-2012 spec monocoque that will form the basis of all of the cars.

Marquardt admitted that working with Mercedes and Audi to create a level playing field for BMW's return had gone well, but he accepted that his squad will still have ground to make up to its rivals.

"Audi and Mercedes have an advantage over us in experience," he said. "But we have a strong team and have been working in a very efficient way to make up the gap.

"The cooperation [on the new rules] means we have stable regulations for the future. It was important that every manufacturer contributed. We have worked together and it has gone very well so far."

BMW completed a private roll-out of its 2012 DTM car at its Aschheim test track on Monday. A concept car will be unveiled in just over a week in Munich.
