Will Bratt follows maiden win with first Formula 2 pole at Spa
Will Bratt sealed his first Formula 2 pole for the second race at Spa-Francorchamps, just a day after recording his maiden win in the series
Bratt rose to the top with five minutes of the overboost-enabled session remaining, having taken the gamble to go out late on a drying circuit which was yielding increasing levels of grip as qualifying progressed.
That demoted previous pacesetter Mirko Bortolotti into second, the Italian having been the first man to dip under the 2m07s bracket moments before.
Bratt still faced an anxious wait however as Ramon Pineiro began his flying lap - and while the Spaniard set the fastest third sector, Bratt held on to pole by just 0.078 seconds.
Bortolotti's earlier effort was enough for third and a share of the second row alongside Tobias Hegewald, who was fastest in sector one but lost time in the following two zones.
Championship leader Christopher Zanella meanwhile finished in fifth, fractions ahead of the impressive Jordan King, who is making his F2 debut this weekend.
King, the youngest ever driver to compete in F2, had sat fourth with five minutes of the session to go, and recorded the fastest time of any driver in sector two.
Mikkel Mac and Miki Monras will share the fourth row for F2's second race at Spa, with Julian Theobald and Jack Clarke rounding out the top 10.
