Will Power opened this weekend's Firestone Twin 275s event by topping the opening practice session at Texas Motor Speedway

The Penske driver produced a best lap at an average speed of 214.997mph early on and was never beaten, although team-mate Ryan Briscoe came close when he unloaded a 214.836mph in the final minutes to consign Dale Coyne Racing's Alex Lloyd to third.

JR Hildebrand claimed fourth place for Panther, leaving Dario Franchitti as first of the Ganassi drivers in fifth place with a 214.025mph lap.

The afternoon passed mostly without incident; the session being interrupted just once for a brief yellow flag for a track inspection.
