Grapevine: Busch sorry for speeding violation

Kyle Busch has publicly apologised for a speeding violation on Tuesday near Charlotte while test driving a new sports car on public roads

The NASCAR star was reportedly stopped by police on Tuesday afternoon after being spotted driving a yellow Lexus LFA at 128 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was handed a citation to the Iredell County court, before being released by the police.

"Today I received a traffic citation in Iredell County," Busch said in a statement. "I was test driving a new sports car and I got carried away. I went beyond the speed I should have been going on a public road. I apologise to the public, my fans, sponsors, and race teams for my lack of judgment.

"I take responsibility for my actions and I can assure you that something like this will never happen again. I thank the Iredell County Sheriff's Department and all law enforcement for the hard work they do every day to protect the public and to enforce the laws in a fair and equitable manner."

Although Busch is currently on probation by NASCAR following a post-race altercation with Kevin Harvick at Darlington three weeks ago, this incident is not expected to have any impact on his status with the sanctioning body.

The 26-year-old is on the verge of claiming 100 victories in NASCAR, having most recently won last Friday at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Camping World Truck Series where he field his own team.
