Dillmann beats Sims to GP3 pole

Status driver Sims had been one of the pacesetters throughout the session. Dillmann (Carlin) had not really featured early on, but he was much stronger on his second set of tyres.

Once he was up to speed the Frenchman initially put himself third, while Sims responded to a good lap from Arden's Lewis Williamson to reassert himself at the top of the timesheets.

But the all-British front row was shortlived, as Dillmann went even quicker on his next lap and sat on pole with three minutes remaining.

ART's Valtteri Bottas had been a frontrunner early in qualifying, but he had dropped to 10th by the time the session entered its final minute. The Finn was up on Dillmann's time at the second sector on his last flying lap, but he lost out in sector three and had to settle for sixth.

Behind Dillmann, Sims and Williamson, Andrea Caldarelli (Tech 1) took fourth. Mucke's Nigel Melker enjoyed a brief spell at the top after he was one of the first to put on his second set of tyres, but he had to settle for fifth in the end.
